About us and editorial policy

Last updated: September 23, 2026

Crew & Coin is a site for people who own, or are about to start, a small trade business: handyman services, cleaning, painting, landscaping, pressure washing and similar work, usually with one to ten people.

The guides answer the questions that decide whether that business makes money: how to price a job, which insurance you need, which software is worth paying for, how to find customers and how to pay for the equipment you need to grow.

Who is behind it

The site is written and edited by Arthur Calder, the pen name of its founder. He runs a home-services company with its own crews, so pricing, scheduling, insurance renewals and late invoices are part of his working week.

His company operates in Europe. The site mainly serves readers in the United States, the UK and Canada, where many rules are different. That is why every guide that depends on local law is built from official sources, and why those sources are always linked.

How we research and write

  • We start from the question a business owner actually has, not from a keyword list. Each guide answers one question as directly as possible, starting with a short answer at the top.
  • Numbers come from a named source. Prices, legal requirements and statistics are linked to the regulator, agency, insurer or vendor that published them, with the date we checked.
  • Experience is only described when it is real. When a guide says "we tried" or "in our business", it happened. When we have not tested something, we say so.
  • We do not publish a guide that only repeats what is already out there. Every article has to add something: a worked example, a calculation, a comparison table or a detail from running a real business.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help with research summaries, first drafts and language editing, because the site is published in English. Every article is then checked before it goes live: facts are checked against the linked sources, numbers are recalculated, and anything we cannot verify is removed. AI is never used to invent experiences, reviews, quotes or people.

Updates and corrections

Guides on prices, insurance and software change the fastest. We review them at least once a year, before the busy season starts in spring, and show the date of the last update at the top of each article.

If you find a mistake, please write to hello@crewandcoin.com. We fix confirmed errors quickly and, when a correction changes the meaning of an article, we note it in the article with the date.

How the site makes money

The site is free to read. It is paid for by advertising (Google AdSense) and, in some articles, by affiliate links: if you buy a product or service through one of them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Articles with affiliate links say so before the first link.

Advertisers and affiliate partners have no say in what we write, which products we recommend or how we rank them. We never accept payment to review a product favorably.

What this site is not

Nothing here is legal, insurance, tax or financial advice. The guides explain how things generally work so you can ask better questions and compare offers. For a decision about your own business, talk to a licensed professional in your state or country.
